Salt Lamps & Negative Ions

A series of scientific studies shows that salt crystal lamps can increase the negative ion count of the air we breath by up to 300%. In nature, negative ions are created by wind, sunlight, surf, waterfalls and rainstorms. Generally, a negative ion is an electronically charged molecule made up of oxygen. In fresh country air it is common to find up to 4000 negative ions per cubic centimeter. That's about the size of a sugar cube. Near strong surf or close to a waterfall or heavy downpour, up to 10,000 negative ions can be found. On the other hand, the number of negative ions found in major cities during rush hour is less than 100, and this factor contributes to stress, irritability and a score of other physical and psychological disorders.

Negative ions have been found to have a power ful impact on our environment and our health. Negative ions speed the healing of burns and bring great relief to asthma patients. They have been proven to balance serotonin levels in the bloodstream, stabilize alpha rhythms and positively impact reactions to sensory stimuli, increase levels of alertness and improve cognitive abilities such as thinking and learning, while improving one's sense of well-being and enhancing human performance on many levels.

Negative ions substantially reduce airborne pollutants and are highly effective in eliminating airborne bacteria. Dr. Albert P. Krueger, a microbiologist and experimental pathologist at the University of California, found that an astonishingly small quantity of negative ions kills many bacteria and quickly removes them from the air.

Altough salt lamps are not considered medical devices, they produce negative ions which work to significantly improve phsical and mental health and are well proven to provide relief from sinus problems, miigrane headaches, allergies and hay fever, reduce the capacity and reduce our susceptibility to colds and flue. We absorb aout 68% of our energy each day from the air we breathe. That's more energy than we get from the food we eat or the water we drink.

In this day and age it is considered wise to do all we can to improve the quality of our personal environment and general health. Salt lamps do so quite nicely and provde a warm, relaxing glow to any home or work place.

Large rocks. I use a large rock and chiminea lamp in my art room to remove the odor of the mineral spirits used to clean my oil paint brushes. By morning, no trace of odor is detected in that room.
